This week in Independent Study and Mentorship, I have been actively working on my Final Product — the Opportunity Book. After speaking with the development team at the company I am currently interning in, they suggested to research top-level companies today and figure out the direction they are moving forward in. I researched a variety of companies and plotted all my information on an Excel spreadsheet and created a map of all the locations they were expanding to. This taught me to research a company and see their future growth through searching for press releases and looking for significant/impactful company news. I have plotted the current properties these companies own and have seen how many they have in each city. On another map, I have plotted their future growth so I could know which markets are desirable and booming. In the future, I will have to do the same exact thing so it is beneficial that I have started familiarizing myself with researching now. Through researching these companies, I am able to clearly see the importance in learning from those who are head of the curve. Each individual/company has something to teach whether it is following in their footsteps or learning from their mistakes. I will continue to research more companies and familiarize myself with markets all across the United States.
