Independent Study and Mentorship (ISM) is a class offered at Frisco ISD high schools. This course allows students to choose their topic of study and conduct many interviews with professionals about their topic. The student will search for a mentor who gives them guidance throughout the year. ISM helps students become more advanced in speaking skills, research, analysis, writing, and professionalism. This class allows students to expand beyond the four walls of the classroom and obtain experiences directly from knowledge professionals in their specific field of study. Throughout the course, the student is required to give presentations and speeches regarding their topic of study to the class, read scholarly article and write research papers as reflection, and create an original work project that depicts their understanding of their chosen topic and contributes to society.
