This week in Independent Study and Mentorship, I have been all over the place. Spending around four days in California and three days in downtown Dallas for a DECA competition, I have seen the impact that connections and network can have on one's life. In California, I was able to see how far the people one knows can get them. I was able to meet with celebrities and other famous people just because the individuals I was around had full access to them. These relationships create endless opportunities and help propel an individual's chances for success. The people I make connections with can help me advance through life with much more efficiency than without. Furthermore, during the DECA state competition, I was able to see how advanced some of the participants are. They are ahead of the game and it showed me that there is so much more I could be doing. Even when I believe I am in an optimal place, there is always a way to better myself and shift the future into my favor. Throughout DECA, I was able to make new connections with inspired youths and hopefully meet them later in my life. No matter what it can seem like, there is always a way an individual can contribute and bring something to the table. I must keep this in mind when speaking to people and always give them the benefit of the doubt until shown otherwise.
